After years of
controversy, the U.S. Department of Interior has rejected a proposed road
through the sensitive wilderness of the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge. But
this decision is being assaulted by both Alaska senators, who are trying to
force the road through.
The road would
seriously threaten birds, brown bears, caribou and many other species.
Virtually the entire world populations of Pacific black brant and emperor geese
build their nests and raise their young in the shallow ponds and wetlands around
the Izembek lagoon.
Interior Secretary Jewell to stand firm against efforts to force the construction of this
destructive and unnecessary road. Tell her to keep the Izembek Refuge
If you take action and have not already registered, you will receive periodic updates and communications from The Wilderness Society.
