We need wind and solar energy to replace dirty fossil fuels. We also need healthy wild places for clean air, clean water and a place to recreate and enjoy the great outdoors.
To achieve both, we must have a smart-from-the-start approach that balances renewable energy with conservation and other uses of our land. While renewable energy is much cleaner than other dirty energy sources, it can leave a heavy footprint on public lands. So, it is important to put projects in places where development will have the smallest impact on land and wildlife.
By passing this legislation, Congress can ensure a portion of the proceeds that the federal government already collects from renewable energy companies goes toward protecting wild places.
