Say No to Arctic Drilling

The oil and gas industry continues to threaten the Arctic Ocean and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with efforts to drill in these pristine and fragile places.

Please make wilderness protection part of your legacy

Dear [Decision Maker],

America's Arctic is the nation's last great, wild landscape, providing vital and sensitive habitat for caribou, wolves, polar bears, whales and migratory birds. It is also home to Alaska Native communities that depend on public lands and wildlife as a source of food.

Your administration has acted to protect special habitat in the Western Arctic's National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, and Americans who love our wild places are grateful. But the oil and gas industry continues to threaten the Arctic Ocean and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge with efforts to drill in these pristine and fragile places.

I urge you to help protect the nation's public lands legacy by resisting efforts to open the Arctic Refuge to oil and gas development, and to protect the Arctic Ocean.

The remote Beaufort and Chukchi seas' coastlines have little infrastructure to support oil-spill response efforts in one of the most challenging environments on Earth. If an offshore spill were to occur, the industry has no proven technology to recover significant amounts of oil from stormy, ice-filled waters. A major spill could severely affect the coastline of important public lands.

Please let the preservation of America's public lands be part of your legacy as president. Protect the Arctic and its wild places.

Sincerely,
