Every day that Congress waits to pass new wilderness protection bills, our most special wild
places remain at risk to development and other human pressures.
The good news: More than two dozen wilderness bills have already been introduced in Congress. These
bills could create new wilderness areas in places across the country, from Montana's Rocky Mountain Front to the coastal plain of Alaska's Arctic Refuge.
The bad news: These important bills could get stuck in legislative gridlock, which is exactly what
happened during the last Congress.
As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1964 Wilderness Act this year, it is important to remind Congress how much these places mean to us.
Please tell your members of Congress that wilderness matters and urge them to pass
wilderness bills in 2014.
