Sign Our Petition: Don't Stand for Trump's Attack on National Monument Lands
The Trump administration just announced sweeping cuts to Utah's Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. Bears Ears' boundaries will reportedly be shrunk by a staggering 85 percent and Grand Staircase-Escalante will be sliced in half. Additional cuts have also been recommended for Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in California/Oregon and Gold Butte National Monument in Nevada.
The reductions are widely assumed to be a way to open more of these priceless landscapes to mining and drilling.
While we prepare to launch a legal response, it is vital that we also mount an unprecedented display of popular opposition to these actions.
Please sign the petition below to tell Trump you oppose his anti-public lands assault and attack on Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante.
Dear President Trump,
When you signed your executive order calling for a "review" of 27 national monument lands, including Utah's Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, you repeatedly said it was for "the people" and a way of putting Americans "back in charge."
In light of your outrageous action to shrink the boundaries of these monuments, with more to come, let's look at what "the people" actually want.
99.2% of the millions of public comments submitted about Bears Ears and other monument lands opposed your executive order. That included about 91 percent of Utahns.
Previous polls have similarly shown that Americans value public lands and want them to remain open and well-protected. They certainly don't want them carved up to make way for more mining and drilling. We are here to remind you how hugely unpopular this action really is.
Please end your horrible attack on national monuments and other public lands, and return them to their protected status.
